Forklifts are a type of lifting equipment which can be divided into several subcategories:


  • By design: forklift truck, sideloader, reach truck, narrow aisle forklift (rotating fork, order picker, combi), 4-way, walkie stacker, all-terrain, telescopic handler, special (straddle carrier, EX-rated, driverless etc.)


  • By usage area: outdoor, all-terrain, internal logistics (warehouse)

Forklifts with capacity up to 60 tons

Previously, this category used to be the upper limit of a truck operator’s license, but we do not separate them from those with a higher load capacity. These are generally forklifts with a mast in front of the driver and a counterweight at the rear. On electric models, the battery may serve as a counterweight.


Application: unloading containers and trucks, low height racking. Linking interior and exterior logistics. Pallet – Bale – Snow Excavator…

All-terrain forklift

These could also be classified as frontloaders according to their construction. Their defining characteristics are the high ride height and the large wheels. They navigate rough terrain with ease, but should be used with caution, as uneven terrain can cause very dangerous situations during lifting. Telescopic handlers (which lift using telescoping arms instead of masts) are more expensive but more universally versatile than their “merely all-terrain” counterparts.

This one is a special lifting machine, designed for lifting and moving long and heavy loads (long materials, pipes). In fact, the racking system is also specific for their application, as they are best to operate in conjunction with cantilever racking systems.


Application: lifting long and heavy loads (4-6 m), short-term transportation to the target site. Stable handling of loads larger than pallet sizes.


Load capacity: 2.000 kg – 60.000 kg

Average lift height: 0-6000 mm.

Warehousing equipment (internal logistics forklifts)

This is actually a collective term. They are most commonly used in warehouses in an enclosed space. Although their usefulness is limited in scope, they can be much more productive inside warehouses than forklifts. These include, but are not limited to:


Walkie stackers


Application: lightweight stacking / rack handling, typically with low turning radius. Suitable for lifting and transportation; 2 solutions, with, or without a riding position.


Load capacity: 1000 kg – 2500 kg


Powertrain: electric


Average lift height: 0 – 5700 mm.

Reach trucks

Application: serving warehouse racks, much cheaper than a 4-way forklift, but has to turn to face the rack – low space requirement.

Towing and transporting forklifts


Application: for moving pallets within warehouse (without lifting). 2 solutions, with or without a riding position.

4-Way Forklifts

These bridge the gap between sideloaders and frontloading machines, with the aim of performing the functions of both. Their wheels are able to turn so that the truck itself pivots, enabling more efficient storage areas.


Application: Same as sideloaders, but also suitable for stacking, as it is able to turn in place. It is used in both in the open and in enclosed areas.


Load capacity: 1000 kg – 20000 kg


Powertrain: Typically electric – diesel


Average lift height: 0-9000 mm.
